Health Guarantee
A Healthy Start for a Lifetime of Love
At The Puppy Yard, we understand that your puppy is more than a pet. Your puppy is a future family member, a loyal companion, and a source of love and happiness.
We believe every puppy deserves a healthy beginning, and every puppy parent deserves clear information about their new companion's health.
Our Health Guarantee is intended to explain our approach to puppy health, veterinary care, and the responsibilities involved in welcoming a puppy into your home.
Please note: The terms below are a template for your website. Before publishing, customize the time limits, covered conditions, remedies, and exclusions to match your actual policies and applicable laws.
1. Our Commitment to Puppy Health
We prioritize responsible breeding practices and appropriate veterinary care for the puppies entrusted to us.
Where applicable, we provide prospective puppy parents with available health records and information about veterinary examinations, vaccinations, deworming, and other care the puppy has received.
We encourage every new puppy parent to review these records and discuss any questions with a qualified veterinarian.
2. Veterinary Examination After Arrival
We recommend scheduling an examination with a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of receiving your puppy, unless your veterinarian recommends an earlier visit.
This examination helps establish a health baseline and allows your veterinarian to identify concerns that may require further assessment.
Please retain copies of all examination records and notify us promptly if your veterinarian identifies a potentially serious health concern.
Important: The 72-hour period is a proposed policy term. Confirm that it is appropriate for your business and applicable state or local requirements before publishing it.
3. Congenital and Hereditary Health Conditions
Some health conditions may be present at birth or have a hereditary component. Their likelihood and severity can vary by breed and individual puppy.
The Puppy Yard encourages responsible breeding practices and transparency regarding available health information.
Any guarantee covering congenital or hereditary conditions should clearly identify the covered conditions, applicable time limits, required veterinary documentation, and available remedies.
Because French Bulldogs, Golden Retrievers, and Labrador Retrievers can have different breed-associated health risks, we recommend discussing breed-specific health screening and veterinary care with prospective puppy parents.
The specific conditions covered by this guarantee must be listed in your finalized policy.
4. What to Do if a Health Concern Arises
If you believe your puppy has a health condition that may be covered by our guarantee, please contact The Puppy Yard as soon as possible.
To help us review the concern, please provide:
- Your puppy's name and purchase date.
- A description of the symptoms or diagnosis.
- Relevant veterinary examination records.
- Supporting diagnostic results, if available.
- Receipts for related veterinary services, if applicable.
We may request additional documentation reasonably necessary to evaluate the claim.
Your puppy's health should always come first. Please seek prompt veterinary attention whenever your puppy appears unwell. Do not delay necessary treatment while waiting for a response from us.
5. Conditions and Exclusions
A health guarantee should clearly explain which conditions are covered and which are excluded.
Depending on the final terms of your policy and applicable law, exclusions may address:
- Illnesses or injuries arising after transfer that are unrelated to a covered pre-existing condition.
- Accidental injuries or trauma.
- Conditions associated with improper care, neglect, or unsafe environments.
- Parasites or infectious diseases acquired after transfer, where legally permissible.
- Conditions resulting from failure to follow appropriate veterinary recommendations.
Any exclusions must be reasonable, clearly disclosed, and consistent with applicable consumer-protection laws. They should not be used to avoid responsibilities that cannot legally be excluded.
6. Available Remedies
If a puppy is confirmed to have a condition covered by the finalized Health Guarantee, the available remedy will depend on the terms of the agreement and applicable law.
Your written policy should specify whether eligible claims may qualify for reimbursement of certain veterinary expenses, a refund, or another legally permitted remedy.
Any limitations, reimbursement caps, documentation requirements, and claim deadlines must be disclosed before the purchase is completed.
No term of this guarantee is intended to waive any consumer rights that cannot legally be waived.
7. Your Responsibilities as a Puppy Parent
A puppy's long-term health depends on appropriate care, preventive veterinary services, nutrition, and a safe living environment.
After bringing your puppy home, we recommend that you:
- Maintain regular veterinary examinations.
- Follow your veterinarian's vaccination and parasite-prevention recommendations.
- Provide suitable nutrition and clean drinking water.
- Maintain a safe, comfortable living environment.
- Provide age-appropriate exercise, training, and socialization.
- Seek veterinary care promptly when health concerns arise.
These steps help support your puppy's well-being throughout its life.
8. Breed-Specific Health Considerations
Each breed has its own care requirements and potential health concerns.
French Bulldogs: Their short muzzles can make breathing and temperature regulation more difficult. They may require particular attention during exercise, travel, and warm weather.
Golden Retrievers: Prospective owners should understand the importance of appropriate exercise, weight management, routine veterinary care, and awareness of breed-associated orthopedic and other health concerns.
Labrador Retrievers: Maintaining a healthy weight, providing appropriate exercise, and discussing breed-associated orthopedic and other health concerns with a veterinarian are important parts of responsible ownership.
We encourage prospective puppy parents to research their preferred breed and discuss individual health needs with a qualified veterinarian.
9. Contact Us About Your Puppy's Health
